Examples

  • Built in 1978 with a view of Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market, the Pike and Virginia Building initiated a housing style unique to US cities: sunlight suites. Locally dubbed the “Seattle Special,” this type of housing is a multifamily dwelling built up to six stories in height, constructed with a small footprint on an urban lot (also known as an “infill lot”), and served by a single staircase or elevator.
